Let’s welcome the new baby!

Posted On: March 19, 2013

Dear mama and papa,

I’m the apple of your eye….The queen of your universe….I’m the cutest, smartest, sweetest kid in town!

But now, I hear talks about another baby….I know something fishy is going to happen because I see new clothes ~ clothes that are too small for me! Mummy’s getting fatter and she says she’s too tired to play with me  :(

Mama and papa… I don’t want to share your love with anybody else! All the toys belong to me, and YOU belong to me…. But I know that the baby coming into our family is inevitable… So maybe you can do a few things to make me feel better and help me welcome him together with you!

Don’t tell me too much in advance about the baby. I neither have the patience to wait for too long nor do I know what time means. You can probably tell me a month or a few weeks early and prepare me for the arrival!

Involve me in picking out new dresses for the baby!

I can also help you find a new name for the baby… You don’t have to promise to name the baby with my choice, but you can use it as a nickname!

Encourage me to imagine and draw the baby and maybe splash on some colors too!

Allow me to talk to the baby through mummy’s tummy…and mummy can tell me what the baby’s saying to me because the baby lives in her!

You can show me books and pictures of new born babies and how they grow into cute little grown-ups like me!

Explain to me that a new born doesn’t do much… mostly cries and poops and stares… so that I don’t get disappointed that we don’t get to play!

Re-enforce your love for me. Praise me and tell me I’m the best! Appreciate every little thing I do so that I understand that the new baby is not going to steal you away from me!

Get me used to being taken care of by both of you as well as grandparents and other relatives who might be pitching in once the new baby arrives!

If you’re planning on transitioning me into big things like toilet training or learning to dress myself, then do it well in advance and not just before the birth of the baby.

Enroll me in a play/pre-school for a few hours every day so that I socialize and learn to share!

Let’s spend some reading time together…. Just you, me and the baby inside your tummy!

*yawn*… time for my nap now…

Love you loads,

Your little one!  :)
